Tom Ford
The entire presentation for Ford's AW15 collection was a relaxed and smooth, albeit swift experience. After being presented with champagne on arrival, we were taken into a clean white studio, where two dazzling bright, large klieg lights shone down onto the space. This basic set was built by Ford himself and provided perfect backdrop to present his collection to small groups of roughly fifteen people.
The ever charismatic and composed Ford was clearly relaxed as he jested about the number of people that moan about his usual prohibition of photography, telling us that this season he had decided to lift this ban. Ford then proceeded by explaining that the presentation was going to be a 'tight edit', focusing solely on the most directional pieces. "Thirty outfits in three minutes" said Ford.
With his renowned American suave, he continued joking with his audience, inviting anyone onto the stage to restyle the models should they feel the need, or saying that he would grab a wind machine should they require one. Ford used the short space of time to concentrate on the styles within the collection, rather than the inspiration behind the outfits. However a distinct Sixties Mod vibe ran through the collection, whilst the juxtaposition of sportswear combined with luxe tailoring modernised the collection. Black and white optical prints on jackets paid homage to the Op Art movement popular in the Sixties; these visually striking jackets were worn as entirely monochrome outfits, paired with white shirts and black ties. Layering was key to Ford's outfits and staple pieces including chunky shearlings, duffel coats and turtlenecks, were all continuations of the Sixties theme. Finally, casual styles from the collection including selvage denim drainpipe jeans and sneakers, form wardrobe staples of young urban males, in turn giving Ford’s AW15 collection a younger feel than we’ve seen before from him.
